in for the kill; chanyeol/kai, luhan/kai

“he doesn’t love you!”

the words ring in his ears and echo down the empty streets, long deserted in a city made of ash. kai stares back at his best friend, anger and hurt etched across his features as he tries to burn the words to his skin like a tattoo.

“don’t you get it? he will never love you. it’s sehun. it will always be sehun.”

kai stands in silence letting the words sink in, feels an ache in the back of his throat and his eyes fill with water. he stuffs his hands in his back pockets and shifts from foot to foot unsure of what to say because he knows he’s right. hundreds of years spent teleporting from room to room until the higher powers put them on an errand to rescue mankind, missions long since ceased. all this time spent in luhan’s cell, promising to tell sehun hello or goodnight or remember that time. all this time loving a ghost.

chanyeol steps forward with an arm around kai’s waist and a hand on his neck when he brings his lips crashing into his. he presses closer, fingers threading through soft hair and teeth tugging lips. the kiss isn’t sweet or soft or romantic, it’s full of desperation, hundreds of years of words unsaid and promises never made. when chanyeol pulls away only slightly, kai doesn’t open his eyes. he suddenly wishes he possessed tao’s power to rewind time and make everything as it was. it’s only when chanyeol whispers ‘wake up’ against his mouth that his lashes flutter open; he sees nothing but wet lips and tear stained cheeks telling him that everything has changed.
